What it does is it will not run without the choke and runs rich. I have a new carb on it. I cleaned it and checked the seat and checked the timing it is dead on. I adjusted the valves back to spec. Intake 8 thousandths, EX. 18 thousandths. Here is the link of the vid of it running. www.youtube.com/watch?v=aVENHc9g_tY

'will not run without the choke and runs rich' is a contradiction. 'New carb' as in one of those worthless non-adjustable Walbro carbs?
Unless you mis-typed your valve lash numbers, those are completely wrong. |

It would be helpful to shut off the music and the child when making the video.
Then adjust the valves to .008 and .018 not .080 & .180 as typed or is that a typo? Hand choking it will make it rich. |

Mrgiterdone you are probably allright on your adjustment. I watched the youtube video. The way you have it wrote is 80thou and 180thou. You forgot to add zeros after the decimal point. I would also check your head gasket. A blown head gasket will give it the same symptoms. Did you reuse the carb gasket when you put on the new carb? Old gasket could possibly be damaged. And the last thing did you have the motor in the right place when you set the valves?

I readjusted the valves. They were way out of spec. The book said to put the motor TDC. I put the T on the flywheel in the sighthole then adjusted them is that right?I'll try to start it 2mro.

do you have a good flow of gas to the carb ? and good new gas ? will it start and run for a few seconds ? would it run if the choke was set half way . throttle open wide? at carb. that might explain needs choke to run and runs rich . you adjust the valve clearance after the cam has opened & shut the valve

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
