Default What are the rotary tiller weak spots?
Im just looking at the extensions for the model 1 and am wondering if the gearbox can handle the extra tines? I dont see a problem with the 90 degree pto one but the one in the tiller where the tine shaft goes in. I just purchased this and haven't checked it out enough to see if that is gear or chain in there either. With extensions it will be 38". If I put this on my 1872 I would like to increase it a tad more with custom fab. The 1872 is about 42" wide. If it will overstress it to much then maybe I will just find extensions to increase it from 26" to 38" and run it on my 147. Any suggestions?

Larry adding more then extension then one on each end is going to create to much stress on the tiller. I know how you feel about wanting it wider but if it was me I'd use it on the 147 and save myself some headaches. Your going to have some fab work to get it on the 1872.

Put it on your 147...it is not designed to have more than two extensions, and will probably break or wear something out very quickly.

I have a 1A tiller that is currently in pieces and i can say that it should be built strong enough to handle some additional extensions with a little modification. the biggest weakness is the fact that the tine shaft isn't supported on the ends. I think if you added bearings on the ends to help support the shaft, it would work great.
