Hour/Life expectancy of Magnum18?
I am looking at a 1810 cub tomorrow with a mag 18, the guy says it runs good and has 850 hours on it. I want to pull this engine and put it in my 782, but I dont want to buy it if it is going to need a rebuild soon. I know there is no way to tell how long it has left, just hoping for some input from someone with experience with m18s. He is asking $400 for it as a working mower is that fair or should I look around more. Thanks

Grab it for that price!!
 850 hours is nothing, IF, it has been taken care of. You should be able to check the oil, run it with throttle up for awhile, just go with what your gut tells you. I would think if the motor is in good shape another 1000 hours or more would be acceptable.

Farm
Its all in the mantiance of it. We did a briggs today thats just over a year old. Looks like someone has dumped a hand ful of sand down the intake. Did a 48 Tank today that has almost 1000 hrs on it. other than the starter a bit noisy, runs like a top. Ive seen lots of Commands throw rods around 1000 but poor mantiance. I saw a new briggs yeaterday that threw a rod, they work better when they put oil in the eng!

Thanks for the replies, I feel better about the hours. Hopefully it runs good, then I will have my 782 back in action.
