Hello, I recently found a person with a cub "O" that said he was going to restore the tractor, but didn't care or want the mower deck, so he was thinking of scraping it. I'm in need of the left side deck spindle and pulley, so I emailed him to tell him not to scrap the deck because I could use the parts. he eventually emailed back after he checked the deck out and inspected the spindle. He said, he knows what the parts are worth, but he won't rip me off. He wants me to make him a offer. What should I offer??? i dont want to insult him, but he was going to scrap the deck originally, so i thought I could get the parts cheap?? What does everyone think is fair??

I've bought those decks in very rusty condition, but usable with a cog belt already on it for $30 and I've seen them painted up in better shape, not perfect, for around $75 -$100. Of course condition and your drive to him are factors, but I would start around $45-$50 is fair for both parties.

Sounds like he got $$$ in his mind after knowing someone wanted it. If he isn't going to rip you off and knows what the parts are worth, have him price his own stuff. Don't play his game. Just my 2 cents.

I agree, don't play games. Offer him scrap value if he insists on making an offer and not listing a price. That's probably $30 or so at best even with the high iron prices. He doesn't have to haul it off and gets what he would have anyway. That's fair for both parties in my opinion.

Scrap prices are not that high for small items like these. That entire deck is probably worth $5 or less as scrap. A lot of people have the misconception that these tractors are worth hundreds of dollars as scrap. Even at the fairly high price (for my area) earlier this year of 10c/lb for steel, an entire CC is only worth about $50.

Well he answered back with a price of $50 for both. I asked him if thats for both spindle assemblies, or just the spindle and pulley. Originally he offered me both spindles, but I told him I only needed one. So again im waiting to hear back from him. If its both spindles, thats a good price, if its for the spindle and pulley I guess I could deal with that price??

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
