The series I/series II designation is for the KT-17 only and does not apply to the Magnum engines.

Is there much work to installing the Command 18 in the place of the KT. I found one out of a 1864 and I think I will pick it up this weekend. Im not worried about the wiring, but I need it done in a hurry so I dont want to have to order a bunch of adapters and other custom pieces to adapt it driveshaft and pto wise. Thanks for the replies

Wiring and a custom-length driveshaft, and possibly some slight reconfiguring of the exhaust system will be your primary issues.

Picked up an 1810 tonight, it is in really decent shape I almost feel bad pulling the engine out of it to install it in the 782. It also came with a nice rebuilt 50" deck that will work nice on the red one. Thanks for the input, I am happy I went with the magnum 18, It should be alot less modifying.

Look in the IH section of this site for a link called "M-18 in my 782". It has all the wiring modifications explained.

I am having a rough time with kohler twins. When I bought the 1810 the engine was shaking pretty good when I looked at it. I assumed it was because it was missing two engine mount bolts and the other two were loose. So I pulled the magnum out last weekend and started cleaning it up tonight, and while fiddling with it I was turning it over by hand and heard some weird noises. The oil looked good and I did not hear anything bad while it was running other than rattling sheet metal. Well I pulled the plugs and turned it over and what do you know no air pushing out of one cylinder. Its got a broken rod and still runs on the good cylinder. I got really mad and thought about selling the whole lot of cubs. Now I have three out of commission tractors, the yard needs mowed, fall garden work is coming and snow is just around the corner, and to top it all off I used the rest of my cash to buy this nice looking P.O.S. 1810. I don't know what to do now. Thanks for listening to me vent.

Don't give up. Something will come along better and cheaper if you keep a positive outlook.

Take it apart and see what all is broken. For all you know, you might be able to make that into a good engine with a couple new rods and sets of rings.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
