You don't have to unbolt the engine to pull the driveshaft.

Knock the pins out of the front/rear coupler , unbolt the front/rear couplers and the driveshaft will slide far enough in the adaptor bolted to the flywheel to clear the stub shaft. You may have to slide the rear coupler forward also , i can't remember for sure.

You may have to work the driveshaft around to make it slide thru the front coupler or pry the coupler back.

This will work on QL's also.

This is one of the first areas i look at when i get a new Cub. Seems like when i get a hydro Cub with the plastic hydro fan there are blades missing or no blades at all , especially on a QL.

Fan blades are all good and the rear joint feels tight. I may have caught this in time before it ate the metal parts up.

Also to get the drive shaft out, you will need to loosen the four engine mount bolts and move the motor forward enough to make room to pull the drive shaft out.
Hey DX3 you were right both ball joints and the shaft were chewed up so made a new shaft today and will put here back together. When I bought the tractor the 6 bolts on the engine pan were either loose or missing so that probably did not help the drive joints.
Thanks

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
