Mike it's an easy fix. When I bought this one it had a zip tie to shut it off. Talk about barn yard engineering.

When I bought my 782D the PO had a wire coming through the pedestal that you pull to shut it off. I want to do a little cleaner job on it!

Mike, the 782d has 2 cables on the throttle, one for shutdown and one for rpms. I just bought a shut down cable in the fall for a 782d i was working on from the cub dealer, don't think it was to expensive IMO, just a pain to install.LOL

sounds like its not getting the trigger from the starter wire. its wired exactly like a cummins truck, a ground, the pull wire, and the hold wire. when you hit the key to power the starter, it sends power to the strong pull part of the solenoid. theres a smaller part of the solenoid that holds it in as long as the key is on. mine was kicking off when I hit a bump or something as well. I had to take the end off the shutdown lever, energize the solenoid to the run position, and bend the lever so it lined up in the full on position. it was bent so the solenoid couldn't move in all the way, and it would let loose easily.
I know everyone likes the simplicity of the cable, but I like mine working with the key like it was built. I had a cable on my chevy truck with a cummins when I first built it, then I got in a wreck, shut the key off and the engine didn't quit. took me a few seconds to realize I had to pull the cable. decided it was a safety hazard to have it that way so bought the right part and fixed it.

I understand most people want the cable, but for my machine if it goes out, I will be putting the original style back on it. Just figured I'd let everyone know there is still the option. also you can search ebay for the part# and they come up for a decent price as well. SA-4269-12 is the part# for the solenoid, and you just reuse your metal rod end from the old one.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
