1782 cub cadet shutdown solenoid problem
I have a 1782 cub cadet super garden tractor with a kubota d600 Diesel engine and the problem is I have to push the shutdown solenoid in by hand in order to get the tractor to start because it doesn't go in and click when the key is turned like the way it's supposed to. I don't know much about diesel cub cadets so I was wondering if anyone has had this problem before or if anyone had any advice.

Yep, the 1782 I bought a few months ago didn't even have the solenoid on it. I put a engine stop cable on it like a choke cable. The solenoid is NLA from cub and I had the cable. Had to relocate the headlight switch.

Unfortunately,
Seems to be a common problem. Here's how my 1782 shuts down. PO mod. Was like this when I got it. Works great. A choke cable and a few springs. I know Sam had the same problem...........

Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it, the only question I have now is how would you put an engine stop cable on it in place of the solenoid.

It is very easy to do this. I'll try to get you some good pics but you will have to wait a day or two until I can get them for you.

No idea where you would find a cable like the one I have. It was something I had from my construction company days. Think it was the emergency shut down for a Detroit Diesel. Late 60's vintage. A choke cable from any auto parts store will do the same thing.

Here are the pics. I put a little bend in the cable to make it line up better with the lever for the shut down. I used an extra clamp I had for a Vanguard. I didn't put any springs on my setup, I just push the handle back in after it shuts off. I used a bolt that fit the hole in the lever with the nut tightened till it ran out of threads and cut the excess off. The bolt is free to turn in the hole in the lever.
