I'll ask once again

Just what exactly is the correct group # battery for the 882/1512 Cub??
More CCA needed for sure , because when you fire the preheat for a bit, the smaller GT/Lawn batteries, in cold conditions, don't have enough oomph left to spin fast/long enough to get the fire in all 3 lit.

Your shed probably stays cold this time of year so as Sam has suggested a block heater of some type would be a big +.
I agree 100% with Oak here. I too have the Harbor Freight battery maintainer and I am thoroughly impressed with it. I live in the snow belt and plow with my cobbled up diesel SGT (large auto battery installed at the rear) throughout the winter and keep the maintainer on it. In fact, I use the larger battery charger/winter maintainer from Harbor Freight on my old 7.3 Powerstroke. Definitely an investment I recommend as these high CCA batteries can be pricey when they need replaced!

They came from the factory with a U1 L&G battery. There are some improvements you can make for cold weather starting. Alterations to the battery box will be needed for a larger battery.

Box is already larger than the standard L&G battery.

I thought I posted a large image? I'll try again.

Admin Note: You did. I resized it so it wouldn't run off the screen and the people with limited internet could open it.

Bill, is that a single stick 782D? I've never seen one of those. I'm also seeing the heat baffle that didn't come out until the 1572.

I've had the best luck with an AGM battery from batteries plus. they last several years longer than a regular battery, and have better cca usually.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
