Good question. I'm not familiar with the earlier blowers. I don't think the manual on my 190-450 mentions them either. However when you you go to parts lookup on the cub site the bolts that hold the augers to the shaft are not bolts but shear pins. Actually they are bolts but designed to break in a specific way under a specific amount of stress. I've never broken a shear pin or stopped a snowblower with a clog. They usually break when you get something in them like wood, ice chunks, rocks, hit a curb ect. On both my blowers it's pretty hard to shear a pin.

My QA36A has a soft bolt that holds the small drive sprocket to the shaft . That will break ocationaly , If you don't have one in the tool box .Just keep one it the box it's not hard to change.

By soft bolt do you mean a bolt that is not hardened or "rated" or is it a specific kind of bolt?

That is not supposed to be there...it should be a spirol pin and not a bolt.

I asked the guy I bought my tractor and attachments from about a shear pin for the snow thrower. He told me that it did not have one. But, he may have been wrong.
