what do you think is a fair price for this 108??

I bought a 108 for $ 100.00 with rear lift blown motor , 20 miles away i got a 10 HP for $ 100.00 . There are deals out there you just go to look hard . I have 10 plus people looking for cubs .

i got my 149 in worse shape than that 80 miles away with a blown motor and a close to new tiller for $100 in the end, only $50 was for the tractor, i had to keep uping the price untill he would throw in the tiller! i bought my first tractor (a 100 with fenders) from one of the sponsors, now nothing against him, he is a very nice knowledgable guy but i paid for $400 for it and it was in poor shape, had lots of PO mods and ended up blowing the motor after i got it home, thats wht most ive ever spent on a cub and wouldnt say i got a very good deal, several months later i picked up a nice original 71 with good 71 parts tractor with 2 decks snowplow and extras for the same price...ive gotten a few tractors for free by putting up flyers all around town! im starting to become known around my small town as the tractor kid and people call me looking for parts or service on stuff! its all what you are willing to pay and how much you want it! ... it helps to get lucky tho, i got 50lb wheelweights for free:biggrin2.gif:

oh and i always forget about it but i got a partially taken appart 109 with a smokey (but non running when i bought it) motor, nice deck and a CW-36 snowthrower in OK shape for $100, there was a GD rear end in that deal too! sold just the tractor to my neighbor for $100 and he paid me another $100 to rebuild the motor...i would have done it for free!:biggrin2.gif:

It comes down to the area you're in.
Cubs up here, are worth their weight gold. But, there's deals everywhere.
A guy I worked with, gave me a 64' Simplicity Broadmoor in great shape....but he did keep inferring that it's an antique and is probably worth alot. I didn't give in because he didn't need the money in any way, and it was left in the shed when he bought the house....if I didn't take it, it would have just become part of the pile of junk next to his shed.
I just started in a new profession, not involving mechanics. My managing agent, tells me he's got a 76' WheelHorse with a 10 or 12hp kohler, and a plow blade....weights and chains. Says it's like new...been sitting in his shed for 10 years. told him I'll take it off his hands in a few months...and I'll give him what it's worth. When I see it, I'll know...it's either a 8spd gear drive, or hydro. I'm excited (wife isn't though).
Deals are out there...when you find them. I don't believe in waiting for a deal, so if a GT pops up, it all depends on what you are willing to pay for it.
if an original pops up, in good shape, I'm on it, if I have the jing....worth has nothing to do with it.

i agree with you Tater....i am convinced this tractor is well worth 400 dollars...i don't care who likes 108's or not...its everyone's choice and trust me...i know now what NOT to ask on here....lol...thanks for all the positive opinions from everyone

You'll have to agree it was a "fun" question that has brought so many people so close and right here at Christamas. I personally like to hear all of the input.

I think you got a good deal for sure. Your happiness is what counts and I am sure you'll like that 108 just fine.

This topic certainly has sparked a lot of interest and is further testimony why I don't get involved with these type of topics.

What is a piece of trash in one man's eyes, can be a treasure piece in another man's eyes. Geographic location, supply and demand, Hydro vs Gear Drive, NF vs WF, styling and the infamous "I want it bad factor", to mention a few, all plays into a transaction. With all that in mind, it is extremely difficult to place or suggest a price. I have seen Cubs go from "free, get it out of here" to +$6,000.00 for some rare model(s).

Carefully examine your prospective purchase, get as much information as you can, consider travel time, and work within your budget.

As with any used Cub purchase, expect to put more money than the purchase price in it, for all the things that YOU want to do with it.

I am guilty as some of you guys are, I wanted a 1450 so bad that when I found one less the 50 miles away, I bought. I paid too much for it considering it's condition. I sunk a lot of money in it. But you know what, I am still happy with my 1450 and it is one of my favorites.

The IH Cub, no matter what model, is well worth your time and efforts. The tearing down and rebuilding is part of the fun. The experience(s) of making it into a solid Garden Tractor is all worth it. You maybe rebuilding the tractor with a son, grandson, family member, or a good friend. Considering this....how much it that worth...???

And if you buy something and pay too much, join the "yellow fever" club. Life will not end if you over paid.

Good luck on all your tractor hunting and use a little common sense and look at the Big Picture.

from a parts guys view $180. after you take the tires off sounds like a steal. anyone rebuild an engine lately ,buy clutch/driveline parts ,carb ,starter gen.
around here in western Pa that would be gone as soon as the add hit the paper .
