Thanks Todd and Eric!
It is in really good shape. We decided today that it has either had a rough 200 hrs, or an easy 800. What it really lacked was general maintenance. I don't know that it has seen a grease gun..... ever.

I agree, a 582D is the best idea for a build! It will be legend......... wait for it......... ARY!!

Thanks Tim!
I'm pretty close to a full line up! 71, 125, 1250X2 (one for parts), 1000, 582, 682, 1811, 154 & 185 Lo-Boys. I'm feeling pretty good!

Yeah, the float sticking sucked..... I had just changed the oil and only put about 2 hrs on it. Oh well. It happens. I ordered a carb kit and a new fuel pump for it. Not going to take any chances that it was the FP that did the leaking. I don't want to go through that again! That's one good thing about the old singles. If the float sticks, it just makes a puddle! We'll have it back up and going in no time flat! Plus, I now have the choice to run a 44" or a 50" deck on it.

Thanks Ryan! It is probably the nicest one I've bought outside of my 1811.... but I bought it almost 15 years ago! It was a little newer....

Well boys....... the bad news verdict is in. Compression check revealed a dead cylinder, right side. That was the side I thought was the issue, and TBH, I can't believe it runs. Dropped exhaust seat on it. I'll call my engine machinist and see if he can cut in a new seat without disassembling.... but I'm not hlding my breath. Sooooo..... may get to look for a diesel after all.

Sometimes a blessing is disguised?! I'm anxious to see a gear jammer with factory looking hydraulics and diesel engine (if that's what you do). Its been an ultimate project IMHO for a cpl yrs now... honestly I'm excited to see someone actually do it. I'll be watching

That's what i did to mine. Got a mag 18 out of a AYP with a 1" shaft and the briggs pto bolted right to it. The briggs had breather problems, sucked in front seal and a valve spring retainer on the RIGHT side had wore some into the block. Still ran good except for puking oil. I've got 2 more of these bodys waitin for me a diesel find. I wanted that cheap one in PA too, sittin on a couple motors. Mike

Jonathan, I almost feel guilty for buying this tractor for you! Seems it has major issues. Kinda wish I had never called you from the auction. At least you have a solid foundation for a 582 smoker.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
