How do you order from Napa? Are the parts listed as Cub Cadet or Kohler?

They are listed as Kohler or NAPA's brand for Kohler. If you have Cub's part number they can do a cross over and find the correct NAPA number.

Thanks. My local Cub dealer is nearly useless. They want to charge me for shipping if they have to order a part for me! I ordered from another dealer that I'll have to make a 30 mile round trip to instead. Napa is about 2 miles form me.

You'll be pleasantly surprised at the cost.

I recently purchased head gaskets for a 10hp.(#109) & 12hp.(#122) at NAPA, same product number, at 1/2 the cost than from a local cubbie dealer.

Here's another BIG HINT that you should do?

Please ask for more information about your new?old # 122, this way I don't have to.
I'll just lurk around & follow your post's.

I also take a photo of EVERY part that I'm gonna tackle, I mark & baggie every single nut, bolt that is removed. I then categorize every photo on my photo program. I then take it out to my garage & have a detail log of every step that i'm undertaking . I also book mark & then print off any questions answered for the $122 or #109, & file away accordingly.
I can't rely on my brain matter to remember what goes where. This way it save's me time in trying to find past tips & clues. I am not to good in finding these how to questions by myself.

Nik,

Nik,

Nik,

Nik,
Very sage advice. I had planned on doing videos, but my bro in law has our camera. So I'll have to use the camera. I'll use the video camera for if/when I do a full resto. Then it'll really be invaluable.

Tomorrow will definitely be a fun day!

I wish we still had a napa in town. Autozone and advanced came in and both the smaller shops were gone in a years time.

I just got a NAPA a couple years ago. They had been Car Quest, but changed. I a still forget about them all the time. I am also lucky to have an independently owned parts guy less than 2 miles from me. The owner is the only person behind the counter. He has been in the business for years and really knows his stuff. His prices are usually competitive with the others. Sometimes more, sometimes less, cash price is always better, and the service is great. I'll have to see if he can get Kohler parts.

Default No spark!

Ok, so we got into the 122 today and here's what we found:
1) Carb wasn't bad, we did a quasi rebuild and we'll do the full rebuild after we get spark.
2) Ignition is working, engine turns, but doesn't start.
3) Engine is free and cranks.
4) 12v into the coil, 12v out.
5) 12v into the points, NONE out.
6) When points are taken off the tractor, we get 12v in and 12v out when connection closed.
7) Engine will not start since there is no spark
8) Good compression on all cylinders

My buddy called a friend who's more familiar with the points setup. We were told to replace the condensor and points (if the condensor doesn't do it.)

Do you guys have any other suggestions?

On a side note, the wood chipper moved freely and appears to be in great shape!

On a second side note, when I was cleaning around the tractor, I found a snow plow blade burried in the leaves and crap for the second Wheel Horse 502 tractor in the shed. So now it appears I have 2 attachments for that one and 4 for the CC. I'm almost regretting throwing away the little red trailer which had its wheels rotted off. (It was red because it was held together by rust!)

There is a thread in the technical library, second page. You will need a new coil with internal regulator. Shouldn't have 12 volts to the points. I just went through it and the condensor will be bad from 12 volts from coil. Oh, and congrats on the find!! You will find the old ones a little more work than the new ones, but with a litlle TLC, it will be working long after the new ones are dead. Half the fun of the old ones is the satisfaction of working on them and keeping them going. Enjoy the new found addiction/ I mean hobby!

Ok, to play it safe, I ordered the coil, condensor, points and plug wire. Think that should cover it?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
