Hey Guys!, Me again!.. I have a question. What is the best way to remove the front PTO?
![]() I need to get this off before I remove the engine. From what I can see If I take off the the lock nuts I might be disassembling the clutch and I think I want to avoid that.

Last night I snuck some time in and got the intake manifold and Carb off. I went ahead and gave both parts a really good cleaning with Greased lightning and Carb cleaner respectively. I think they came out pretty good. I noticed the Manifold looks like it was sealed with some sort of silicone or something... is that normal? As the Tractor was running well at full Throttle but dying out when I dropped the throttle down should I do a full rebuild of it or would just a really good internal cleaning be enough? Seeing as the carb was missing a bolt that held it to the Manifold, this might explain the dying out at low throttle.. but I'm not sure. Here are some pics. BTW if anyway can explain to me how to make my pictures smaller but expand to full size I would really appreciate it. I'm using the pictures for reference once I start the rebuilds.

Only pulled my electric clutch off once. Pretty certain you just remove the bolt in the center and unhook the wires. Should slide right off. I think the large offset flat washer has a tab that sticks in the key slot on the crankshaft, pay attention to how it comes off.
Search the Onan engine section for what you need to look for regarding the intake manifold. They have a tendency to separate at the seam/joint.

PTO is off, Engine is out and now at a machine shop to see if it needs to be bored. I'm continuing my teardown and I have gotten to the removal of the dash. With that I have a question. The original hour meter on my 982 no longer works. what is the best way to replace one of these? Should I go out and find a clock style one on eBay or perhaps can I replace it with a more modern one? What do I look for in a replacement.

Yep it's common to see RTV on the intake manifold seams. The manifolds warp causing a lean condition and Engine searching.

Javier with the hour meter, before you change it, make sure you have a good positive and good ground going to the meter with the key on.

Also, place your heads on a known flat surface, like a glass coffee table, etc., to check for warpage. These can be all be resurfaced by hand, using a piece of glass and some wet-sandpaper.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
