I think it is all about intended use and operator preference.
I always had a gear drive, but as the years have rolled on, after 3+ hours of mowing, my bad clutch knee told me it was not happy, as well as my shoulder from turning the steering wheel. So I went with hydraulic's about 6 seasons ago. The ol' 782 requires little to go from fwd to reverse and the added power steering causes no discomfort after mowing. If I had an acre or less, prolly it would not be an issue. Just a view from someones else's eyes.

Gotta ask...why would you trade? For him or for you? Sounds like you have a mowing machine so that's a null point. For a show? For riding around? This one's all up to you OP
