Yup, your right. My bad. The PTO is just the cover. It's the top half of the 3 pt hitch that comes down over the rear of the frame and bolts in about 8 places. That's the part I was worried would interfere with the braces.

So, I may not be working too much on the cub for a bit. The wife wandered into the garage where I was working today and saw it for the first time and asked what happened. So I told her the truth. The back half of the lawnmower just fell off! I was lucky to be alive! It could have ended in a horrific fireball of doom!

Needless to say, getting the stare of death should have been enough...except I put my foot in my mouth even further. I was cleaning parts and she saw my rag and asked where it came from. I told her from a bag in my rag box. I told her there was a bag of them and they were huge! That I could probably just use one and clean up everything on the tractor! Well, they were her old underware. I think I'll stay in the garage a few more hours....

So the big brown truck came today with a box of gaskets, and I have a question. Try not to rip on my too hard for asking this, it may be a stupid question, but I'm stumped.

In my bag of 2 rear axle housing gaskets, there's a single fiber washer. Any idea what's it's for? I'm hoping it's a mistake because I can't remember ever removing one.

Could that be a friction disc? I ordered one because I figured I'd replace it since it's a commonly worn out part, but I don't remember seeing one in the box. Why would they put it in the same bag as rear axle seals?? Obviously, they are trying to confuse an old man.

I also just got my gaskets and seals. I received no such fiber washer.

Yeah. It's the friction disk. They must have thrown it in the same bag. I think they have it all in bulk then bag it themselves.

Not much new going on. Installed new axle bearings and seals. I decided to tap the top of the case to add a vent. I think it was Dirty Steve that did this before. Going to add a piece of fuel line and put a fuel filter at the top so nothing can get inside. Have the two new couplers from surplus center for my rear pto shaft. A neighbor owns Amigo (his dad actually invented the first Amigo back in the 70's) and he's going to machine half of the coupler to accept the shaft and bore holes for the roll pins. I think the couplers were $25 compared to buying them new for over $200.
