Probably if I was going to get a "good" garden tractor, a JD since there is a good dealer nearby and there seems to be a lot of parts availability. I've been using MTD built big box mowers with reasonably good success and just got a Husqvarna last year (used) and for the bigger stuff have a Ford 9N and 8N. I will be getting a modern SCUT or CUT this year with FEL and finish mower, the wife even agrees (finally will have the car paid off, YIPPEE!). We are at the point that a FEL is needed and I don't see putting the money into renting something for just short term projects like moving manure piles, gravel and misc. "stuff" around the place. With the number of llamas we have the manure removal and loading in the spreader is also a daily task that gets harder with age.

If I hadn't decided on Cubs, I would have looked for 318s and 140s, but I was really leaning toward Simplicity because I like going to the local dealer so much. I can still get most of my parts from them I think. Love the mom and pop operations.

C'mon people whats with all the JDs?
I'd probably go with an old Sears suburban, wheel horse , Massey Ferguson, and an old allis/simplicity. The only green machine I would want is a 140. I almost bought a wheel horse from the same guy I bought my 1250 from. That probably would have decided if I went Red or Yellow. The 1250 came with a tiller and wheel horse came with nothing.

Well I would have to say, since I collect both. If you took away my cubs I would still have my Allis Chalmers. I am also found of the MF 10 style Massey Tractors

I guess it's a good that we don't have to make that choice and we do have Cubs. It would suck if we had to pick from the others. Running for cover now see ya.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
