My pto seems to be working but is slipping when I hook it up to the 44" mower deck. it will work if it's spinning only the center spindle on the deck but not all three... now i bought a kit to rebuild it and i've read up on it, watched a couple of youtube videos about it and i'm ready to go tomorrow... HOWEVER:
i just noticed that it looks as if my thrust button and my wear button has been replaced with the following... a center post connected to the clutch shaft assembly... resting between the arm that holds that center post / punch is actually a plastic washer can this be correct??? posting pics...clutch3.jpg clutch4.jpg clutch1.jpg clutch2.jpg |

Your thrust button should look like this.
This picture is during assembly, but you can see the parts and where they go. Notice the throw-out levers where they contact the thrust button, yours will need replaced. ![]() The wear button looks like this. This one is worn, but you get the idea. ![]() Hope this helps a little. |

it certainly does... i've seen complete pto assemblies as well as seen assemblies done on youtube but since mine would engage and disengage before i bought the kit, i wondered if cub experimented with something different... i guess whoever got this one going before i bought it, was very good at "rigging" things up to work in different ways... he actually built a steam engine from scratch to scale... it was very impressive!

Yea, people come up with some impressive solutions sometimes.
The PTO on one of mine had a similar (fix). It worked. But once i put it back original it works so much nicer ![]() |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
