Default Was there a "sickle" attatchment available?

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if IH offered a sickle attatchment for the Cubs? Right now I can sure use one around in the back yard...not that they would be easily available.

I know Haban-Racine had one, along with Jiffy-Ball (front mounted). They are around but most have been anywhere from $400-$600...

The Haban is about what you will find the easiest. The Jiffy is a rather rare attatchment, I've been looking since I got the CCO....

I posted on the Jiffy a while back, here is a pic MBounds posted up in it..

B1jetmech:

Myron is the one that would positively know.

But I am 99% certain, that IH did NOT offer a sickle bar implement for their Cubs.

Haban is the only one that I am aware of, besides the brief offering of the Jiffy.

B-1 Jet: Roland is correct. The Haban sickle bar mower was the IH approved side cutting sickle bar and the Jiffy Balling (posted earlier) was the IH approved front mounted sickle bar mower.

Thanks for the input guys.

I looked around the web some but couldn't find a ready made sickle attatchment for IHCC's.

I found this one:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...K%3AMEWAX%3AIT

Could be a prospect.

I do like the side mount verses front mount.

I like to Rear Mount design that Dale Merkle's Dad designed. Easier on and off.

Hoping Dale will post some pictures of it.

Dad's rear mounted Haban mower:

Power comes from the tiller drive. The top pulley is removed and the output shaft is turned so it faces out the rear. IH Cub Cadet must had some possible plans to the tiller drive as a rear PTO???

Two pins, lift arm and pto driveshaft is all that needs install or remove the mower from a Cub Cadet. The mower takes a four foot cut.

Found this old thread today. Hope one of you reads this. What sickle mower frame did Dales Dad use for his candidate? I too, would prefer a rear mounted sickle bar. Have also been thinking about using the rear PTO to power it. Would really like to talk to him and pick his brain.

The mower was on a Bolens. A rear pto would work to power the mower. It doesn't matter which direction the PTO shaft turns. The only problem you will have is you don't have live PTO. It's not that hard to get used to....early farm tractors did not have live PTO.

For those who don't know what a live PTO is-the clutch must be turning the driveshaft for the PTO to work.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
