Default Agway mowers

As a kid we had a old 11 hp Agway mower. Man I really miss that mower. She ran for 14 years! It's a MTD product....but IMHO the Agway mower never faulted and was a blast to use. It was fast too! Seven speed! No separate deck height and pto. The PTO turned on as you lowered the deck. I haven't seen that on a mower since!

I really really miss that Agway mower.

Very similar to the MTD 12.5/38 I was using up until last season and most happily replaced with the 1450. To be fair to it, I could always get the lawn cut with it but it had it's fair share of quirks. It would sometimes pop out of gear, or throw the drive belt. That is what drove me to a better built machine. My old MTD ran great, in fact I have the 12.5 I/C engine for sale on craigslist. It was the tractor built around it that let me down.

every time that thing would throw the drive belt, I'd have shut down, remove the cover and re-install the belt. Belts are for mowing decks, not drive axles.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
