The series 2 & Magnum engines use a much stronger casting with thicker/more webs.
Series 1 do not have a cross drilled crank for pressure to the rod journals.
The rod journals are splash lubed, also the oil pump operates @ about #5 oil pressure vs. about 40+ for the series 2 & magnum. If you have a good series 1 block,
I would sell it to a purest that wants one on evilpay, and go with a series 2 or magnum.
Could a person assemble one? Possibly but why?
There might be some machining in the block to provide oiling if you chose to convert to use the series 2 oiling system. I haven’t looked into this in detail, but it comes to mind there was an obstacle to doing this.
If you chose to go with the series 1 oiling, you will have to drill the rods for splash oiling.
It just isn’t worth the work/time in my opinion.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
