Hello all,
I'm a new member to this site and must admit it's one of the best I've come accross for IH Cub owners. That said, my 1450 is in need of some maintenance. I'd like to check the condition of the points but the dust cover is almost up next to the frame and I can't get to the lower screw. Even if I were to get the lower screw out it looks like the cover will hit the frame, preventing removal. Are there any tricks to getting the cover off or am I totally missing something? I've read that some people drill holes through the frame but I've been unable to find any detailed info on this. Thanks for your input. |

My 1450 has a hole to remove the bottom screw. I don't know if that is factory
or if PO did it. |

Thre is an oval hole on frame for lower screw. If your ISO mounts are shot then engine is too low and this would explain why it seems impossible to get cover off.

Try a big pry bar from beneath the iso cradle prying agains the frame rail.. The Iso rubbers should have enough give to give you a little more room. (Don't go all gorilla on it, if you can't get it still you will need to pull some bolts, and remember your driveshaft flex couplers are still taking a bunch of strain this way.. )

Thanks. I'll look a little closer. I did notice a hole in the frame but it didn't line up which leads me to believe I have an added ISO mount issue. If the mounts are shot will I notice the engine shaking? The engine doesn't seem to shake all that much although I do feel a little vibration coming through the foot boards.

Look under tractor with flashligt from front. You should find two bolts holding engine cradle to tractor frame. Also there should be about 1/2" thick rubber between cradle and frame(bolts go through these rubbers) If not then it is time to check the iso mount/engine cradle upgrade article on this site(at technical library)

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
