Default 782D / 882: Replacement upper radiator hose?

I've had plans to take my upper hose off and go to AutoZone, NAPA, O'Reilly's, etc. to see if they could come up with a close visual match. Has anyone already done this?

Let us know what you find. The upper hose on mine is hard as a rock and probably isn't long for this world. It may be hard to find something close from a car, as most cars don't have 1" radiator hoses. Don't forget to add some insulation to the new hose where it was on the original one.

You read my mind on that one. That's why I need to find a parts counter guy willing to just take the hose in the back and start trying to match it. I may very well walk out with a hose from a 1977 Honda Accord.

For the insulation, I thought about getting some of that self-adhesive thermal foil wrap with some kind of fire-proof padding inside.

I have a good friend that works on small engines for the city he lives in so he has some pretty good connections with his parts people. He took my hose with him into a warehouse and just walked around checking hoses until he found a match. Almost identical and it works just perfect. Ill call him in the morning to see which place he got it at.

Ill second that notion on the insulation. Its a must do if you are going to be running your engine long and hard.

That would be awesome if he could come up with a part number or a way for us to get ahold of some.

That would be great LuvTruks.

At some point this fall I'm going to start tearing the old girl down for a full restoration, at which point I will put on a new water pump/alternator belt and a new hydro fan. My upper hose is getting brittle, and this may just send it over the edge.

Well guys I'm sorry to say, no luck with the part number. It's been over a year since he got it for me. We have no recollection of the numbers that was on it. He bought at a local parts supplier called American Auto Parts. Feels pretty positive that it was made by Gates. Possibly for a jeep?? That's all he can come up with for now. I'm not home but when I get there, I'll be able to examine the hose to see if any numbers or stickers might still be on it. Maybe a local parts house near y'all can look up 1" Gates hoses. That could be a start. I'll keep you updated to my findings asap.

Ok I got home and checked the hose. Here is what I found

On one line it reads: NBR CR 0615 A Audy
Next line it reads: Made in Mexico C1 161

Thats exactly what is on the hose, stamped into it multiple places.
If it is in fact made by Gates, hopefully those numbers will show up or at least cross reference.
Thats all I can tell you guys. Hope some of this helps.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
