there was a factory ROPS for the wide frames... I've saw bits and pieces of one, but not a picture of one mounted... something I'd like to see. It looks like it slants foward toward the hood from what I can tell, but I may be wrong.

Thanks for the replies, they did make one im pretty sure, bolted down in front of the footrests on the frame and leaned back a lil but that was more or less just a shade canopy. Im lookn to see if anyone has made something like thats on a bigger tractor. Mounting its the problem im up against.

Gary: There was actually a 'sun shade', that IH sold during the QL run. It came off of the frame just in front of the foot rests, angled back as it went up, and then went over the top of the operator. The frame was white, with a yellow top, and white 'fringes'.

Bill, in Ken Updike's book "original farmall cub and cub cadet" on page 103 there is an engine shot of an 800 and this is the sentence quote: "The left view of this model 800 shows the front mounting of the option tractor roll over protection structure (ROPS) that IH offered. The ROPS attachment is very hard to find.

Here's a pic too...

This was found Cub Cadet parts look up:
http://www.cubcadet.com/webapp/wcs/s...A/040103300039

It's called a Protective Canopy.
There is a set of rear axle bracket assembly (item 8 and 9) to help prevent roll over (front to back).

Curious as to where you wish to have the ROPS bar located on the tractor. Do you want it in front of you leaning back towards the rear of the tractor OR just behind the center of the seat, similar to what larger tractors have? If your looking into the latter option you might try looking at the BX-series of Kubota tractors that are currently out. Not the model that came with the backhoe standard, that was a goofy machine all of its own, but the other sub-compact tractors that had the MFWD axle & the little diesel engine. IIRC many of those BX's had a ROPS hoop with thick plates, 3/8 to 1/2" thick, on the bottom of the hoop that matched up to the same size plates that were part of a wild & heavy mount bracket that bolted to the frame at the minimum if not the frame, transmission & axle tubes. The fenders were sandwiched in between the plates on some models & others had a cutout for the plates even though the sheetmetal matched up with the plane that both ROPS plates meet on.

Those ROPS hoops were darn solid given their design. Would use an overhead hoist & endless loop strap around the hoop to lift the tractors out of their shipping crates when I used to work at a Bobcat/Kubota dealer.

Looks nice, good place to mount some lights, gets flashers up in the air so people on the road can see you better, makes some shade for the operator. I dont plan on rolling my cub any time soon, and in my case i get bored some times and like fabricating-building things!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
