Will a model 551 snow blower work on an 1811? Also what is the going rate for a model 551 snow blower that is used but in very good condition? Thanks for any help!

Maybe. The 551 will fit the frame but is meant for later tractors with a larger PTO clutch. Somewhere I heard the 551 has a different gear ratio than both the 450 and 451 so that it'll work okay on tractors with both the small and large PTO clutches, but I can't remember the details, nor do I know if that source was valid.
Anyway, a 364 or 450 will for sure work correctly on you 1811. |

From my research on this question last winter, this is what I think is the situation. The 551 uses the same gear box ratio as the 450 (which is the one designed for your tractor). The problem is that the 551 has a larger input pulley. Plus the two idler pulleys are not parallel to each other, but instead spread out as you move away from the tractor. This may mean that you can not use a smaller input pulley. It does not end there. The input shaft on the gear box is different then the one on the 450, so a pulley swap may me tough to do. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info! I think I will hold off on it and look for a 450.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
