Default A Sad Day in Collins, IA

All of you have been very kind to me concerning my property. Sadly, early this morning, we had 100 MPH sustained winds that destroyed my beloved barn. I do not cry at the loss of inatimate objects, but came very close when I looked out, and in the lightning flashes, saw she had given way. The Cubs turned out OK. The 1450 had a door blown in on it, and the Spirit of 76 had a bunch of sheet metal land on it. No damage otherwise.

We spent the day clearing tree debris and getting the chicken run fixed up again. No family was hurt, which is the important part.

For the time being, I am going to use her scrap to build a temporary shed for the garden tools and tractors, as well as a temporary chicken coop until we can afford a nicer building in it's place.

Wow!! Those winds were VERY STRONG!! I'm sorry to hear about your loss, but glad to hear that no one was hurt!! They don't make barns like that anymore. I hope everyone in your community was uninjured, as well.

Sorry your building took a hit. That was a cool old barn, I hate seeing them go when the owner is still using them.

We got blasted here with some strong storms earlier this season that I am still cleaning up from so I can definitely relate. I admire your spirit though, and wish you the best with your new project/rebuilding.

It's amazing how a single storm can make some quick changes to your plans and pocketbook.

God bless

I'm so glad that no one got hurt and I hope no one in Collins, IA got hurt as well. Looks like your cubs made it out mostly unhurt as well. The wind can't take away that view.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
