Default rear pto attachments?

I was just curious if anyone knew what all was available for the older cub cadets with a rear pto? I think i remember reading in the cadet connection that international didn't offer anything, it was all aftermarket stuff. My uncle said he use to have a tiller that was powered by the rear pto. Which i really wish i could've got. thanks for any info.

Boy,
The only rear tiller that I know of that was powered by the rear PTO was a tiller for a super GT, 982, 1872, etc. Those are hard to find and pricey.

My Dad used to have a 124 with rear PTO. Ran a grain elevator with it. He said it did a nice job. The 124 is long gone. Wish I knew where it went........

I remember seeing a Haban Sicklemo someone had fabricated to run off a rear PTO. Can't remember who owned it. CRS....

YUP....IH did NOT make any implements for the rear PTO on the IH Cubs. Further, the PTO ran backwards to most applications and needs a "reverser unit". The "cool factor" is the only asset this option offered. Other than that, they were virtually useless.

Well, that's disappointing, but good to know. Just out of curiosity I was told the cub tractor and the cub cadet had literally the exact same transmission (the 3 speeds) is that true?

My Dad owns both :

Both mowers run off tiller drive. The Haban mower would work on a PTO equip Cub.

The transmissions were the same. The Cub Cadet has a rear reduction box in front of the trans and the Cub doesn't. The gear reduction changes the direction the imput shaft rotates.

The tractor started life out as a Cub Cadet 149.

IH actually did make a attachment for the rear pto's. Well, kind of. They made a right angle gearbox that was actually for the f-cub that will bolt right on. I know a guy who has several of them and powers a bunch of flat belt stuff. I know he has a can crusher and a corn grinder that run off of a flat belt. He also has a trailer with a ice cream maker that he runs with a v-belt. Pretty cool.

I was hoping Merk would post the picture of the Haban mower. It looks like you would have to build an attachment that would be designed around the constraints of the rear PTO. The gear reduction in front of the transmission, along with the possibility of a creeper being used changes the speed on the PTO given both gear reductions are in front of the power input for the rear PTO.

Now, that being said, don't let it discourage you from building (or modifing) an attachment you want or need as there are ways to get the function of a rear PTO without the typical layout & design that we commonly think of when we talk about a rear PTO. Both of the tractors that Merk posted are excellent examples of this. The benefit of the going the route of the QL tractor shown is that (and I'm assuming now) most of the parts used are standard Cub parts, so if something breaks down the road, you wouldn't have to fabricate up a new part.

. I really want to get a rear tiller but running it off the rear pto wouldn't be a necessity. But i guess since i have one might as well, plus I would think it would be in the way of the gear box for one that runs off the front pto. I could always just buy another cub cadet for one too, which i wouldn't mind having a 100 with the round rear fenders. or maybe a 123.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
