Default HELP !!! "Original Cadet" Transmission Rebuild

Well I am kinda new to the Cub Cadet world.

I recently purchaced a restored Cub "Original" and I found out that I need a new 2nd speed gear 36 tooth in the transmission. I have never done transmission work before and was wondering if I should attempt this myself or have someone else do it for me. Or do I need special tools ??

Any help would be great

Thanks
Ron Oliver

Ron

I'm sure some of the guys will give you some insight soon. I've got to rebuild my O rear pto rear end and looking forward to any info shared with you. I haven't looked at the service manual for mine yet and I bet theres some info in there. Have you visited the tech section of the site yet? Make sure you take lots of pics for me when you do yours.

Default at a stopping point

Ok... Well I cant seem to get the bottom shaft off. I am using a wood block and hammer pounding it back toward the back of the transaxle. How hard should I pound on this thing....

Am I supposed to take the diff part of the rear end of the tractor apart to get the transmission trans axel to slide back ??

Dont give up! A Blue Ribbon Service Manual will help, and help you to communicate terms/parts identifications. Thanks, John

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
