Default thanks & iso mount poll. Repro's?

Guys,

Thanks for the support on the new 1650. PTO is running. I've got a 48 oz bottle of B&S 30 wt engine oil for an oil change.

Ok, there seems to be a general dislike for the modern mounts for the QL's. Has anyone taken a NOS or good used one to see what the durometer of the original mounts are?? Versus the current ones. Rubber products are a function of hardness and shape.

It really would be an easy part to reproduce if there was reasonable demand. I'd probably do 1000 or 5000 mounts.

if you did, do you think you could find a compound that is more oil resistant, and close to the same durometer?

Michael you'd have to get your hands on some NOS mounts the newer cub ones are harder. You couldn't test ones already used due to them getting softer due to use. You could test some new ones and make them softer but that would be a guessing game.

I can absolutely measure the durometer of a NOS mount...

We just have to find someone with an NOS mount? Maybe one of the vendors has 1 left over.

Yes, we can play with materials to get something more oil resistant. I thought all these cubs were restored and didn't leak=0).

Matching the deflection/force curve is what your after... durometer of natural rubber just gives the baseline.

If installed correctly, the new OEM mounts work great. The people that dislike them must not be installing them correctly.

I think I know where there is a set of NOS ISO mounts. They are sitting on my shelf waiting to go into my 1650. PM and we can work out the details of sending them for you to test but I want them back.

That'd be pretty cool Michael, if you could reproduce the old ISO mounts. Typically, a new set of Cub Cadet replacements runs about $80 (and they're harder than the originals, as I understand it.) Aftermarket replacements run about $20 for a set.

What was CC's rationale for making the ISO's harder than original? Was it because of the structural weakness in the engine rails wearing them out too easy? I'm guessing that with the engine rail modification done, we're looking at going back to the softer rubber as was from the factory?

LOL, if you are feeling bad about the cost of QL ISO mounts, price a Kubota ISO mount. From Cub they are $40 each. Four are needed. At least this is what I have found in my search for them. I have one on the left rear of my Super that has split in 2 or 3 places and needs replaced.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
