Default New 982 Owner

Hello All,

My name is Joe and I and the proud new owner of a 982 with the original but blown B48G Onan. I am just starting to learn about this machine and work on getting it running to plow snow for the winter. Not having much luck finding retrofit kits for other motors so I am going to try a used motor for now......if it can be found.

Located in Rising Sun, Maryland

Great stuff on here, it will be great to get to know some of you guys....and gals.........maybe.

Thanks guys worked on it some this morning. A buddy has a line on another Onan to get it running for now until I can figure out what to do to repower this thing with a Kohler. This is one of the Red 982's and it is in great shape and all of the sheet metal is there.

Hey scleve, I have spent many, many hours looking for details to do this and I have found nothing......short of paying a shop a couple of grand do do the job. I will come up with something. Need to find a good Kohler Command 23-26 HP and an adapter plate for the fly wheel and I should be good to go. Hopefully I can find a motor for 5-600 dollars.

Joe

You've got a mix of a intro post. For the parts place a want as in the wanted section of the site and for the tech questions on the motor start a thread with your questions in the IH GT or CCC GT (depending on serial number) section of the site. Doing that will get more eyes on your wants and needs and questions.

We do love pics around here!

Hello Duke,

Sorry about the mixed content in the post. I was only responding to the welcoming intros. Not asking anything from anyone as I have not contributed anything yet. I will be posting pictures soon.

Regards and thanks for the advice.

Welcome to occ.
You say a "blown" onan --ok.
For some, that means a rod through the block or some other catastrophic failure that would not be cost effective to repair.
To others, it means it's not running well and needs fixin'
So we should know your preception what it needs, maybe it can be repaired with our help.
Lets us know so our suggestions can be more helpful.
ol'Geo.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
