Guys,
I own a 1650 and need to know fitment of the different tillers. Are there different models noticeably different? Do some only fit a narrow frame or wide frame? What piece need to be included? What do I need to be closely looking at in an old tiller (hopefully not seized!)?? I have found an ad for a used broken cub with tiller, mower, and box blade. Says "early 70's" cub. Michael |

There is no 0 tiller (or 2A, IIRC)...the 1, 1A, and 2 will fit your 1650 with the correct mule drive. If you do a search on this forum, there is a pretty good thread about tillers.

Matt is correct. There were no Tiller models "0" or "2A". In addition, IH built the model 2B for the 82 Series Cubs.

so it's the Mule drive which is different between a narrow and wide frame?
Is that the same with front blades- just the undercarriage piece is different? Michael |

Michael, the mule drive are diffrent due to the wider frame of the WF's but there is no under carrage used with a tiller.

Is that something that I'd be able to find seperate or trade for a Narrow frame mule?
The link given says that the tiller mule won't work with my "44A" deck. So, it's a task to go between moving and tilling. Thanks everyone! |

Ok,
Can someone post some pictures on the differences in the mule drive for a wide frame mower versus a tiller. Hunting.. but have no idea on exactly how to identify the correct mule. Michael |

The only difference in the two is the mower mule drive front pulley has a spring to work with the belt adjustment.
To use the tiller you would remove the spring and mount another bolt adjuster just like the left side has. The front mule drive pulleys need to be completely stable and not have any give to them. Also you won't need the subframe connected to the mule drive that the deck hangs from. So what you need to do is find another wide frame mule drive and set it up for your tiller.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
