782 with cast rear & aluminum axle housings

Yes, aluminum axle tubes were used with the CI rear since partway through the preceding QL series, and 82 series tractors had CI rearends until serial number 720,000.

The alum fine spline carriers are black, and the back cover looks way diifferent than the I.H. rear ends. as pointed out the fine spline rear ends are the I.H./CCC rear ends. IMHO much stronger also

Serial #720,000 and above have an aluminum transaxle case and axle tubes, and as I was alluding to in my previous post, no 82 series tractor had CI axle tubes.

The aluminum rearends have stronger fine-spline axles and a stronger carrier than the CI rearends do.

Matt G, Did only the 82 series come with the cast rear and the alum axel housings? I find that style rear end harder to find these days, as I have scaled back on cub hunting the past few years

CCC used the CI differentials until they used all of them up that came with the buy out of IH Cub Cadet. Then they built their own out of aluminum. There is nothing wrong about an aluminum case if the machine is used what it was built for and the bolts are kept tight.

That reminds me I need to check the bolts this winter and make sure they are still tight. Would hate to FUBAR that rear due to laziness.

Starting somewhere in the middle of the QL series, aluminum axle tubes were used on a CI transaxle case. This continued through the IH-produced 82 series, and ended with CCC 82 series serial number 719,999. After that, the entire transaxle case was aluminum.
