Was wondering, the mule drive pulleys are 3" dia, would it cause any problems if I use a 2 5/8 dia pulley instead. The bore size and the width of the pulley is the same.

Hey bocephus1991
I don't think it would hurt anything, but i don't know about getting the belt tight. Going to a smaller pulley would make the belt seem to long. Don't know if you would have enough adjustment to make up for it or not. ![]() If you decide to do it, let us know how it works out. |

If you look at the pulley sizes (pto vs mule) a 3" mule is probably running 6000 RPM.
Changing to a 2 5/8 the speed will go up 14% to 6850 RPM. ![]() Where do you worry about how fast that sucker is turning!!?? ![]()

You will end up using a different length belt by about 1"---- BTDT on my 782. I made up a set of solid mule pulleys using a common 203 bearing but the pulley blank was larger so I need a longer belt. Not a real problem but it becomes a situation that you need to go to a special order belt not something that is avail @ cub cadet. |

Well after further consideration,I will prob go with the 3"dia pulleys. Kinda funny though years ago when one of the bearings went out on the mule drive on my 1200 dad got a new one and it was larger than the original,I asked him about it and he was told by the dealer that was what replaced the original,so the mower has ran for 15 + years with two diff size mule drive pulleys on it.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
