those little 4x4 are awesome for skidding timber in tight places. I'd love to have one. There is a logger around here that does custom cuts of trees for wood workers (lets the woodworker/furniture maker go out in the woods and pick their trees) it works great for maneuvering around in the forest.

I'm sorry, but there is no way I'd be cutting up that tractor to convert a Cub to 4WD. Now if I just happened to come across one with no engine, broken transmission, etc, or just found a front axle at a junk yard, that would be another question. I saw one for sale recently where the owner took an original and converted it to 4wd using a pto for the front drive power. It wasn't complete, but looked great as far as he got. As I recall, he wanted $1200 for it. Seems it was in the classifieds of either this or the other Cub forum.

We have a 4wd tractor like that just with a different name.
They are good LIGHTWEIGHT tractors. We are only able to run 5' implements because anything other than that is too heavy. We run a 18" plow and with the right gear and weight ratio we can almost bury the plow. The tractor is good for what I do, gardening and occasionally grading the driveway. The tractor is just too light to do much more. All in all its a good tractor for its size, if you were trying to maintain a full sized farm I would say not. ![]() Hope that gives you a little insight.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
