Default 1572 driveshaft

Next step in the 1572 resurrection is the drive shaft. Just got to drill 3/8ths holes for the coiled spring pins and it will be finished. Waiting on a few engine pieces to come in. Waiting on a new fuel bowl and o-ring, fuel filter element and a water pump bypass hose.

Kelly

What are you building and what did you use for your drive shaft. Looks sweet from what I can see in the pic.

I'm glad to see you decided to do without the drive shaft disconnect also. That is a good looking set up.

I like the U-joint idea. Hope you get some installation pics of it. Is that off of one of the Super Cyclops Cubs?

U-Joint looks like a spicer 1000 series. If I understand what your doing the U-Joint will pin to the hydro and the rag joint will attach to the engine. Looks like you made an Alum adapter for the fan. How is the shaft attached to the U-joint, pinned, welded, keyed?

Thanks
Sam

Sam Mac starting from the hydro the first piece is a 5/8th 9 spline coupling made buy Hub City. Bored half of the hub for a 3/4in shaft. Used a 3/8th coiled spring pins and 3/8th in set screws. to pin the splined hub to the first side of the u-joint using a 3/4" stub shaft. The U-Joint is made by SKF. The fan adapter I made from aircraft grade aluminum. The motor end is basically stock set up which I had to remake because the original was trashed beyond repair. Hope this all makes cense to you.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
