Well here are a few pics of my 102. Ive decided Im not going to do a total restoration this winter. My goal is to get it mechanically sound this winter and do a complete teardown next winter to clean, blast and paint. I also want to add a couple of options such as the hyd lift and the creeper. So I will need some time to assemble all the pieces. I am going to start with accessing what needs to be done. Carb rebuilt is on top of list, going through the steering is second. I will be posting as I go along for all of you picture junkies.

I think you got a good plan. I wanted to do my 582 but putting it on the back burner another year. by the time I get this tiller and plow painted and ready to use , it'll be time to work the garden and mow the lawn.

Well ive got the steering gear apart, the only real play that I can see is in the bushing that goes into the housing for the pivot bolt. the cam follower does have a flat spot that I can clean up and the bearings look good. What is the steering upgrade kit that I hear some people talking about??

I put a kit on my 128. Albeit I haven't been able to check it with the engine and everything sitting in it, I can definitely say it is very smooth the way it sits. I also installed a bearing at the top of the steering tube instead of the OEM plastic bushing. Another cheap improvement you can do.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
