Has any of you have or used a flail mower? I was thinking about building one. I have very tall grass, and my brush hog don't do a very good job, even with new blades, and trying slow to fast speeds. I'm talking about the smaller ones, you either pull or push, using the tractor power, not the PTO, but belt driven.
Thank for any input . David |

Check out the Mott flail mowers as these were made by Mott to be used on the front of the cubs, Originals, 70/100 models in particular, and they also built pull behind self powered units. This should get you in the right direction.
The Mott mowers are rare so if you find one hold on to it!

I have the owners manual and advertisement ad and it said nothing about rpm speed but it does mention that the blades spin at almost 70 miles per hour. Looking at the manuals the pto clutch and drive pulley for the mott are almost the same size. So my guess is they run at about 3800 rpms. But there is a jack shaft so who knows what the reduction or speed up is of the main shaft.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
