Default Other brand tiller on a Cub Cadet 122?

Am I just getting silly and impatient, or could I put another old tiller from a different tractor, say an old John Deere or Bolens tiller on my cub cadet with little or perhaps no modification?

Anyone else do this? I'm curious and would love to see some pictures and hear from people who might have tried it.

Gotta think about cutting up some earth in a few weeks on my 122!

Why did this move? I know I'm asking about an implement, but it's specific to IH Cubs.

...at any rate, hope someone can answer. Thanks!

Your post was moved, because it's about a tiller. Your post belongs in this section.

You just have to be patient. Someone will come along, and answer your question.

My neighbor has a Bolens with a tiller, it is driveshaft driven.

Mounting this Gravely front blade was a major task,

and I would consider it no effort at all compared to trying to add the Bolens tiller to a Cub Cadet!!

Keep looking and good luck!

I don't think it could be done with lots of work. By the time you purchase another off brand tiller and try and mount it and buy everything you need to make it work it would be cheaper to just be patient. This is the time of the year where tillers bring top dollar. Once June rolls around prices drop.

So it could be with the other tiller questions and not be lonely.

Or the reason Allen said.

Well then maybe you should be checking out bolens.com or something, because it seems in your mind their a much better machine.
Good luck with that.

Thanks for the replies!

I wish I could find the link now, because the real catalyst for asking was a picture of a tiller that I saw...I think it might have been a simplicity model.

It looked identical, or close to the design of the cub 1a. Gear box, pulley/belt driven, identical hookup. I could have snagged it for about $100, but I would have been a lot of guessing and hoping. I suppose it wouldn't take much - even if all the other hookups are the same, and the belt drive were a fraction of an inch different, it would just be junk.

I'll keep looking. Not looking forward to the idea, but I think I'll be tilling our (new) garden with our little troy-built two stage tiller this year. That's okay, my forearms need the exercise.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
