Just meaning, would one off of a model 73 fit on a 108?
I think I read somewhere on a thread here that the handle has to be lengthened, but that is all, correct? Just trying to verify so I have no surprises if I get one from a 73 |

Yes, this is true. A creeper gear will fit from a 73 to a 108, and all that needs to be done is buy an extension for the handle. Make sure if you get a creeper that you get the drive gear that attaches to the input shaft on the tranny and a shorter driveshaft. Also, make sure to fill the creeper up with Hy Tran or 30 weight engine oil!!

Thanks for the info. It sounds like creepers that normally get sold do not include: the drive gear that attaches to the input shaft on the tranny and a shorter driveshaft??
approx how much should I expect to pay extra for picking those up? Thanks again |

The handle is different between a WF and NF creeper; you can't simply extend it. To put a NF creeper in a WF, you'll have to bend the handle as well as extend it, or simply replace it. Going the other direction, it'd be simpler to replace the handle.
Don't buy a creeper that doesn't have the drive gear...most should have it, and there's no reason for it not to unless the seller doesn't know what he's doing. The driveshaft just has to be shortened. No need to replace it unless it is worn out. |

On the driveshaft, most original cub gear driveshafts have a line on them and the rolled pin hole already drilled. All you have to do is cut the shaft at the line and you're good to go. I agree with Matt, the gear should come with the creeper when sold. Good luck and keep us posted.

'Gear oil' doesn't go in the transmission....Hytran does.
Oddly enough, the aluminum MTD-built creepers are supposed to have 85W-140 in them. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
