Default K301 governor ?

While out mowing with my CC127. I noticed that the K301 was rev'g real high, cut the throttle back and limped to the shop. Upon engine tear down, found governor gear with one weight stuck in the out position. Has anyone seen/had this happen? Also the tab on the governor rod which is riveted on is loose could this have caused my problem with the gear? I called the PO and he stated that the governor pin had backed out one time and he put blue Locktite and re-installed. Thank you for your time.

Vince_O,

On mine it did not tear any teeth off. I have another question. Upon ordering parts, I noticed that the governor shaft is a kit with a spacer. Upon tear down of mine there was no spacer and my K-series service manual shows no spacer. Where does this spacer go?

Thank you for your time.

Default spacer

There is a steel spacer behind the gov gear, and copper spacer on the out side of the block, that the screw goes through, as a gasket. I hope this helps.

If you follow the directions that come with the governor gear you will know what to do.

David & Matt, Thank you for your replies. I went back and looked at the IPL for this engine and it looks like they are calling the brass nut a spacer. When my parts get here, I will be sure to follow the directions. Don B.

Don

I busted the teeth off splitting the block on an 18 mag. When you set that gov, remember you just turn the shaft by hand GENTLY this is how those tabs fet bent or broken.

Matt

How did you fair on the tornadoes the other day? Saw they went close to the bowing plant and my first though was if you were OK.

Vince,
Thank you for your reply. I be sure to be gentle, as this repair is coming out of my pocket. I am trying to get the buyer to go half, but he is bulking at the bit. Don B.

Don

That was my own stupiddity breaking the gear on the way out. I thought I had all the bolts out of the block when I drove a puddy knife in the seam to split the block.

Vince-

It trashed several buildings at my employer, so I've been off all week, and it went less than 1/4 mile from my apartment...I was finally able to move back in today now that all the debris is cleared and the electricity is back on.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
