I've been asked to help somebody out with a poorly cutting 42" deck on a 105. It leaves 2 stripes at the outside edge of the center blade. The grass is kinda cut, kinda bent over, and mixed with a small pile of clippings in the stripes. Also, when cornering, the thing just pretty much doesn't cut at all on the outside. The blades are sharp, the belts are good, it sounds like it runs at full speed (faster than my 149), and the deck appears level. Where do I go here? Someone mentioned gator blades would help, but I have no experience with them.

Sounds like a blade might be upside-down if it's not cutting and not carrying the clippings. I know i've put them on upside down before

Yep, the whole deck is in really good shape, one of the best I've ever seen. Spindles are still nice and tight as well

You may have a bearing problem and not realize it!!??
![]() There are the main bearings and idlers and mule pulleys. The best way to check the bearings is to mow for 30 minutes and check the part temperatures. A non contact thermometer is very helpful here. Keeps your little pinkies from getting burned when you find a problem. ![]() Oil could be on the deck or main belt. ![]() Maybe the pto clutch is slipping, I have never seen that, but, they sell replacement parts for some reason!!

when the blades are as lined up as they get how big of a space is between the main blade and either outside blade my 42" only has 1/2 to 3/4" between the blades at the tip

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
