Default hydro rear getting hot

I mowed the other day and sprayed my 1210 off and seen steam coming off the rear. The fluid was a little low. Would that be the problem or could something else cause this ? Thanks for the help.

The cooling fins on the hydro pump need to be clean, and the fan needs to have all of its blades intact.

If new it will probably have 10w/40 oil in it that may not be good enough for a hot climate
20w/50 is recommended for a hot climate

A 1210 uses Hytran, not either of those.

They do build some heat, it is not a good idea to spray cold water on anything hot, as they cool down suddenly among other things, they tend to suck water into the innards.
I would think this temp is typical.

Along with what Matt said do yourself a favor and pull the fender pan of and clean the top of the hydro and transmission. Kind of a PITA but it will last longer. If you have not changed the oil & filter that is also something you should do. 2 gals of Hytran and a NAPA 1410 filter. If the rear cover has never been off good idea to remove that and clean the goop out of the bottom of the housing.

I have took the fender pan off and cleaned every thing. I think I will take the rear cover off and clean it. Does anyone else sale Hytran besides the Cub dealer?

IH Case dealers sell Hy-Tran also.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
