I starts only after a while- when its hot and working. There is no leak when cold.

Where exactly is it leaking from? That would give an idea as to where to start the search...

Check your relief valves on top of the hydro pump.

Where it is leaking - it looks like area where hydro pump joins to main chasis housing .- attached one picture; and also area of trunion shaft lip seal. The top of pump where the valves are located is dry.
Can be this leak still be caused by bad valves? or its more gasket problem.. - but then its not leaking when unit is cold/ not operating.

Pull the tunnel cover off and crank the tractor over, do not start it, just let it turn over. I had a similar problem with my 1572, here is a link to what mine looked like. Mine was the one of the valves leaking. Be careful with that tunnel cover off.

If it looks like the leak is from where the pump attaches to the main housing, there is a gasket there, but I couldnt' see it just going bad all of a sudden. Check that the bolts that hold it on are all tight.
The circular cover underneath the pump is a seal point also - there is no gasket/o-ring here, it's just metal on metal seal that has to keep in the hy tran. If you can spin it by hand, it's too loose - give it a good tap with a hammer to tighten it up in the hole.
On the bottom of the pump, where the suction tube enters, there is an male ORB to male JIC37. The O-ring could have given up on this, or the suction tube may have come loose - check to make sure everything's tight there. Careful taking this fitting loose or you can drain all of your hydro fluid out.
Last but not least, check the housing for stress cracks. It is aluminum, so some fatigue may have taken place and soem stress cracks may have occurred.

Just my

Good luck!

Nate

I know it seems silly but if the filter is leaking the prop fan can blow some of the fluid up on the bottom of the transaxle and make it look like it is leaking there. So check the filter and make sure it is tight.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
