Unhappy Dropping mower deck

I have a 1650 and the mower deck will start to droop down when it is not being used. I will store it with the deck up and the next time I go to use it the deck is on the ground. My relief valves have a little leak would that have anything to do with the deck or will I be chasing another problem down. Any ideas.

Thank you
Clifton

Sounds like you need to watch a few old episodes of "Hee Haw"!!

In one of the skits a person would come into the doctor and say;
Doc, my arm hurts when I do this!! The doc would hit them and say "Don't do that!!".

Same thing, Don't leave the deck up!!

I have had a bunch of hydraulic machines, they will only stay up for a few years, they all bleed down eventually.

Something that I discovered by accident is that if you have loosened the hyd lift valve for any reason and do not center it back to where the lift control handle is in the exact center position the valve will have a slight pressure on it even when not in use. This may not be your problem but it is easy to check. While moving the lift handle watch the sliding part of the valve to see it if it goes both ways the same amount. But as was stated all hydraulic devices droop sooner or later.

I highly doubt that your relief valves have anything to do with this. The leak is most likely between (and including) the lift valve and cylinder. Check to make sure all of the hoses are tight. I believe that the lift cylinder on your model tractor has ORB fittings on the cylinder - an O-Ring may have gone bad. You also may have lost an o-ring in the valve body. The O-ring on the cylinder piston also may have become cut or torn, causing an "internal" leak, if you will. A good start would be to make sure all of your hoses are tight. Take it outside and wash it, then store it for the night. Come back the next day and look for fluid drips.

Best of luck,

Nate

Both of mine bleed off when left up.
I don't have any oil leaking out anywhere, so i believe it is just bypassing in the lift cylinder.

All Hydraulic systems have a specified leak off/down.
That said, unless you have a external leak it is most likely the oil slowly going past the spool valve--perfectly normal.
The deck should drop from fully up to down in about 1/2 to 1 day.
Now if it is dropping as you watch it, you have a problem that should be addressed.

All of mine do the same thing. Nothing to worry about, it is normal.

Kind of a safety thing there. If you leave it all the way down, there's no chance of it coming down on something, or somebody by accident.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
