Hey all..
I believe I found a person on Craiglist selling a mid 1980's as he stated..Kohler 18 hp out of a Cub.. I am guessing it is the M18 from a 1800 series?? Could be wrong?? I am looking at a nice 782 with 2 stage blower and original KT17 but series I motor. I am thinking if it is transferable with minimal to no extra work..I might buy the M18 and rebuild/repaint to give it a new life in the tractor when the time comes to pull or rebuild the KT. Is it a possible on that setup being it came from a cub originally instead of another manufacturer like sears and such? Thanks all.. Lou |

First, Welcome to OCC..........
![]() IF the Kohler is a M-18 and IF it is a Cub Cadet spec'd engine, then YES it will mount up in the 782 with no issues. The only thing needing attention is a minor wiring modification.

Thanks for the welcome R Bedell..
I am only assuming it is an M18...it is still in the Cadet..He has it as a 1986 to 89 model Cub and based on the history of Cub's..I am guessing it is the 1800 series and maybe was running the Command M18.. I have been looking into a heavy old iron due to I want old school heavy metal..not a tin tractor to take care of my acreage.. I am torn between a really nice 782 running a series I (but I have even ground and no hills) with a blower or an Ingersoll 3018 model another guy has (3 models actually he's selling) 2 with an Onan and 1 with a B&S Vanguard with a blower to get as well.. I have had and rebuilt from ground up a couple 149's and my last was several years ago a sweet 1250..I used, maintained and sold due to nice offers.. I have had Ingersoll in the past..a 4020 and that is another heavy sweet machine as is the good ole' Cadets of years of old.... |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
