I have a chance to buy a #1 cart from a local guy for forty dollars. It's about two hours away. I know these are rare. I don't want or need one. What has me questioning this is the fact that the guy has no idea what he has and i don't want him selling it to someone who will mess with it. What should i do? These kinds of deals have me tossing and turning all night long.
Alright. I just picked the cart up. I gave him fifty dollars for it and here are the pics. Like i said in a later post. I don't want it. I only saw the value in it. I am currently rebuilding a 1a tiller. If you want this cart and are fairly close to northern wisconsin or are willing to find a way to ship it please pm me. Also the guy said he got it new in 1967 with his mower, and snow blower. It still has the original tires. http://imgur.com/a/BPzKh |

I would maybe offer a little more money, turn it around and make a small profit. I know they started making the #2 cart in '67, so the #1 was prolly made up untill '66? Go for it!

Sounds like a great deal. I too would offer a tad more, but buy it to keep. The number ones are hard to find, especially ones that aren't all beat up and rotted out. Don't loose anymore sleep over it. Call him and buy it!

I'm not far away in Iowa and would love to have it. My little boy and I are restoring an original and have been looking for a #1 to go with. I don't want to interfere, just giving you an option and something to think about.

I was out of town for a few days. I called him back and he still has it. i'm going monday night to look at it to make sure it is what he has pictured. if it is i really don't want it i just don't want it going in a scrap pile. I live in northern wisconsin and I have to drive five hours round trip to pick it up. If someone wants this please message me. I have no idea what it is going to cost to ship it till i get it home and on the scale. I'm guessing i'll have to tear it down to fit in a reasonable box to ship UPS. I am currently rebuilding a 1A tiller and it looks like I'm going to need main shaft bearings and maybe a chain. If you have a tiller or parts and want to trade that would be great. I'll post the pics as soon as i pick it up.

My thinking is that someone here wants the thing and they have something i want. If i get it for forty plus fuel and someone has parts i need then we can work something out. Otherwise it'll be posted on ebay.

Maybe you could just send the guy $40 and then divulge the details of where this cart is to someone who really wants this and might live closer to it in exchange for your parts. It seems like it would be a lot of trouble to ship a cart by UPS.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
