Default Craftsman sweeper, made by Parker!

So I have been looking for a used sweeper for a few years now..I have done some reading on them, and have discovered that everyone recommends Parker sweepers as "the best"..So earlier today im driving around, and I see a craftsman sweeper out at the curb at a house near me..I pull in, ask if its for sale or just "out at the curb to be gotten rid of"..it was free! doesn't work..So I plunked it in the bed of the truck and brought it home..

upon closer inspection, one wheel is locked up, but I also discovered it's a Parker! I dont know what is wrong with with it yet, but assuming I can get it running, I think its a great find!

Its Craftsman model 426.240951
I dont see a Parker model number on it.

Anyone have any idea how old it is?
What a similar "Parker branded" model number might be?
anyone know where I might be able to find a manual?
and...Did Parker ever make any sweepers for Cub Cadet?

The number 71-05-L must be a part number, because the other side has a similar number but with "R" instead of "L"..Left and Right presumably..
So I dont see a Parker model number..

any information appreciated!
If I can fix the stuck wheel and get it working, I will probably tear it down and restore it, and repaint..

thanks!
Scot

This is the closest I could find with that same part number. The model number didn't reference at all. But the diagram looks almost identical to your sweeper.

Anyone know how to remove the wheel on one of these?
I need to get into the wheel to see why it is locked up, and to lube things up..

I removed everything visible on the outside of the "axle"..the cotter pin, some washers, the bit of frame that attaches to the wheel, etc..There is nothing left to remove (no nut holding the wheel on) but the wheel is still firmly attached..I cant see anything else to loosen or remove..im stumped!

Parker manuals I have found so far, such as:
http://www.parkersweeper.com/pdf/Sweepers/HS-7630.pdf
say things like: "Before using the sweeper for the first time each season, remove both wheels and put a good grade of grease on the Pinion gear and the gear of the wheel"..but they dont say HOW to remove the wheel!
anyone know the next step?

This is the wheel in question:

thanks,
Scot

I am betting it is seized with some rust. Maybe some judicious persuasion with a rubber mallet or something similar. I do see a hole with the words oil above it. I bet it hasn't been oiled in decades.

Dwayne, yeah, it shows no signs of being lubricated in a long time!
which im sure is what caused it to freeze up, which caused the previous owner to put it to the curb, which is how I got it!
but im hoping its a fairly easy fix..

I put some oil in the oil hole, and also squirted some PB-blaster around the edges, and have given the outside of the wheel some taps with a hammer..nothing yet..I think I just need to get inside the wheel..

thanks,
Scot

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
