First off I would like to thank everybody here for all the great info available on this site. I saved a 782 that was headed to the scrap heap with a blown engine, and with the help of this site, I am getting close to having it running again with a replacement M18!! The original drive-line was worn very bad on this tractor and I have already had a new drive-shaft made. The hydro coupler also is worn pretty bad on one side, and the bearing in it has separated and fallen out. When you buy a new coupler is this bearing already in it or is it purchased separately? It is kinda hard to tell looking at the parts diagrams.

IIRC...the bearing insert is part of the coupler.

No, it's not part of the coupler. It may come with it, but it is available separately.

It comes out and is replaceable separately...something tells me you've not had one apart before...

Hey guys thank you for your help. It looks like if I order part #903-0794 that will get me a new coupler with a bushing already installed in it. Matt on the parts diagram I see what you are talking about, you can buy the coupler and the bushing separately. Oh and WOW I just looked up the price of that coupler Cub cadet is proud of that part. One other question that bushing looks to be a sperical brass bushing held inside of a steel insert. On mine the brass bushing fell out and the drive shaft wore thru the steel insert and into the coupler. So far I have been unable to get that insert out of my old coupler. If I can get that insert out do you think it would be worthwhile to try and have the coupler repaired and install a new bushing, or just replace the entire coupling?

If the only thing wrong with the coupler is that wear spot and then new bushing fits securely, I'd re-use it. The coupler usually wears in the bore where it attaches to the input shaft- if it wobbles on the input shaft, it needs to be replaced.
Look up that coupler for a QL like a 1450...it appears to be the same thing when compared to the 82 series one, but is a different part number and was about half the price last time I needed one. I've used those each time I've had no choice but to buy a new one. |
