Default Throttle slips

I've got a 1210 that will slip from wide open throttle to a lower speed while running. It it runs great at high speed (3000 RPM) with no vibration. As it slows, I first notice a little more shake, and then have to open the throttle again. I don't see any obvious tension adjustment at either the lever or engine end. I imagine this is a fairly standard component since it looks real similar to the one on my 1650. Any advice is appreciated.

Sounds like the throttle cable is slipping to me.

You probably nee to either replace the throttle cable or take the lever out of the dash and try to give the rivet a good whack with a hammer and tighten it back up.

The cable is in good shape and not slipping. It's the throttle lever that slides down from full open to mid-range when operating. Sounds like a job for a big hammer. Thought i could get away without pulling the fuel tank and removing the speed control. Wishful thinking on my part.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
