Went today to look at a 169. Didn't really want another tractor in the least but it was 5 miles from me. Turned out to be a basket case. Rebuilt 16hp was actually a slightly smoking 12hp with a new head gasket and a few ignition parts
. Also no headlight, pto clutch had a bolt used at the pto button and wore the thrust button, no hour meter, gas tank and dash pedestal junk and not specific 169 parts. It did have the correct serial number and hydro lift so I went ahead and bought it. Can't decide if I really want to put several hundreds into parts and restore it but probably will. I have a parts 129 to lessen the blow so I'll do something with it after I convert it back to a starter/generator. This is my 3rd 169 and the last one was fully redone.

Just what Kevin needs. Another tractor. Didn't you just sell a bunch because you had too many?
Anyway, good luck with it. BTW, are you coming up to Noblesville in Oct.? AJ

Yes AJ I'm working on selling a bunch off. If this wasn't a 169 I wouldn't have brought it home no matter how cheap it was. No idea on Noblesville yet. If I don't start working less hours I probably won't be able to.
Thanks guys. I'll fix it up. Frame is cracked everywhere and needs a ground up restoration with quite a few sheet metal and mechanical parts to be great again.

Kevin,
Nice save. Looks and sounds like it needs a little TLC, but if anyone can get her back together, it would be you. Lew, There's a 169 for sale on the forum. I could line up reverse shipping for ya like we did on the #2. That 169 needs a little more TLC though.

Thanks guys. Whatever could be worn out or rigged up on it is. I've never seen a frame broke in so many areas. There's cracks right in the middle of the frame in spots. I have this 129 I couldn't sell whole and am parting. I think I'll keep the frame, dash tower, and some part from it, swap the tag to it and get it painted then as I have time start fixing stuff and swapping it over as I have time. In a few months or or maybe I'll have a fixed up 169 that's actually respectable again... then park it in the shed with the others

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
